Our brilliant new hero member, Liam Mctiernan won Table Tennis England's, Regional Young Volunteer Award for the East Midlands last week.

The England Ranking Senior Mens Table Tennis player and Economics Student at Nottingham University, recieved the regional award after being nominated by the university of Nottingham Sports Club co-ordinator, who recognised Liam's three year contribution to the university's Table Tennis Club.

''Since joining the UoN Table Tennis Club in 2014, I have held the roles of Treasurer, President and 1st Team Sports Scholar. My largest contribution in the past 3 years has definitely been centred around advertisement and promotion of the UoN Table Tennis Club. I run the UoN Table Tennis Twitter, facebook and Instagram account, whilst creating promotional material and going to events to recruit talented individuals.Alongside my role as President, I am also a UoN Sports Scholar, representing the university at National and International events, winning 3 Gold, 2 Silver and 2 Bronze BUCS National Table Tennis Medals'', Liam explained.

The awards ceremony is taking place on the 26th February, at  the Table Tennis England Club and Volunteer Conference at Nottinghamshire County Cricket Club. When asked to describe his feelings towards winning the prestigious award, Liam said: ''I am very grateful to have won the award and it is extremely uplifting to be recognised for all the hard work I have put into the UoN Table Tennis Club over the last 3 years''.

With the acknowledgement of such great acheivements, as a regional winner Liam will now be entered into the National Young Volunteer award, which will be held at the The University of Nottingham in the New David Ross Sports Centre, at the same time as the English National Table Tennis Championships.
