Our cotton fabric undergoes a mechanical process where fine metal brushes carefully rub the fabric to produce fine fibres, creating extra softness.
All of the fabrics used in the 'Gymphlex England 1906’ collection are specifically made for us to our unique requirements. They are based on the experiences that we have gained over the last 100 years whilst manufacturing sportswear; offering the wearer comfort, easy care properties, and longevity in use. We only manufacture our cloths in mills of the highest standards using the finest yarns that are made to last. This is why we have chosen British and Japanese manufacturers to work with, as they consistently produce some of the best-made fabrics in the world today.
Manufactured especially for us in a very fine yarn, the reverse side is cross-looped and the outer side flat. Ensuring the fabric feels extremely soft to the skin, and lightweight to wear.
Our Combed Cotton Jersey has been cleaned, carded and combed. Carding separates the fibres and runs them in the same direction. Combing using fine brushes removes impurities. Leaving the longest and straightest fibres, that once woven, produce a much smoother and higher quality fabric.
Cotton is soft, absorbent and a breathable natural fibre, making it the perfect fibre for clothing. Cotton keeps the body cool in Summer and warm in Winter as it is a good conductor of heat.
Typically lighter than denim, and originally used for school or work shirts, this special Gymphlex cloth uses ‘Uneven Yarns’ in both the warp and weft directions, resulting in a soft yet Vintage feel.
Our Chino cloth is luxurious! Far from its origins as a hard-wearing British military fabric that offered comfort with camouflage properties, our Japanese made equivalent is both soft and supple, and improves with every wash.
Our Cotton Drill is built to last because of its strong bias in the weave.
Our lightweight cotton Madras check is based on an original school uniform fabric, and the plaid patterns we have designed are unique to us. This fine woven cloth is identical on both sides.
A traditional sportswear favourite due to its natural ‘open-weave’ cooling, our pique is manufactured especially for us, and all colours are ‘Fabric Dyed’ to give a more gentle colour palette.
Our Quilted Fleece fabrics are knitted, then brushed, to create a warm cuddly surface. The fibres are compacted during the brushing process, which gives fleece a nice wind resistance.
Having originally been developed for sports garments, the loops on the back of the fabric are designed to absorb sweat from your body, passing it into the garment to keep you cool. The fabric is softer, resistant to pilling, and of the highest quality.
From the home of Linen, this 100% linen fabric is the perfect summer-shirt fabric, and is made especially for us from the highest quality linen grown in Flanders. Originally only worn by the wealthy due to its cost and superior nature, it has many cooling and freshening properties that make it ideal for those hot summer days.
This has always been one of our core sportswear fabrics. We use a very fine 40/1 yarn count which is made especially for us. This fabric is both ‘Mercerised’ and ‘Washed’ to enhance its crisp look and remove any sheen. Interlock also has a tighter weave, which offers a smooth, fine stretchy handle combined with superior strength during repeated washing, something that has always been important in the sportswear we produce.
This soft matt-finish outerwear fabric is specially produced for us in Japan to the highest of standards. We have carefully replicated the traditional weatherproof feel of our performance sportswear fabrics that have for so long kept sports men and women dry and protected from the wind, and combined this with the surface texture of original Silk ‘Tussah’.
Our technical polyester is strong, wrinkle and tear-resistant, it also has water and wind resistant properties but still allows the skin to breathe.
Our woven Cotton has a strong cotton weave with closely woven threads in a simple criss cross pattern. This is a lightweight, cool weave with a smooth and silky finish. It is very breathable, so ideal on a warm day.
The perfect blend of Cotton and Linen which has been developed over time to create a light but luxurious Shirt
Double jersey is a term that is applied to weft-knitted fabrics that are knitted with two sets of needles on a weft-knitting machine with two needle beds. Double Jersey has fantastic body and weight, making this an excellent choice to keep you warm and comfortable during the colder months without becoming bulky or restricting your ease of movement.
The Nylon shell gives protection against the wet weather and paired with Down, used in our insulated jackets means it is brilliant for freezing cold temperatures, as it offers a layer of body warming insulation that a waterproof jacket rarely offers.
Our Polyester and Acrylic fibres imitates wool and a comforting woolly feel, creating a durable, soft, colour fast, easy to clean.
The ‘Gymphlex Cotton Oxford’ is unique to us however, as we use ‘Supima’ Cotton on both the warp and weft yarns instead of simply combed cotton, offering our products an improved durability and a superior softness. This huge difference only really becomes apparent after the first wash, when the Gymphlex Cotton Oxford begins to soften. You simply must try this fabric.
A gravity fed ‘tensionless' technique that creates dense, soft super luxury Terry loopback fabric, just how it used to be made in the early 1900’s.
